Location: Birmingham, AL
Schedule: Full-Time | Three 12-Hour Overnight Shifts | Friday-Sunday | 7:45 PM-8:00 AM
Compensation: $18.00-$24.00/hour based on experience and licensure + Shift Differentials Available

Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham (VSB) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Overnight Emergency & ICU team in Birmingham, AL. Schedule

  • Full-Time

  • 7:45 PM-8:00 AM

  • Weekend and holiday availability required as part of the Emergency & ICU schedule

Responsibilities

As an Overnight Veterinary Technician, you will provide exceptional nursing care to emergency and critically ill patients while supporting veterinarians in a fast-paced specialty hospital.

  • Assist veterinarians with emergency patient assessments, treatments, and procedures

  • Monitor hospitalized Emergency and ICU patients and promptly communicate changes in patient status

  • Perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, and laboratory sample collection

  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian

  • Provide anesthesia support and patient monitoring during emergency procedures

  • Perform diagnostic imaging and assist with laboratory testing

  • Calculate medication dosages accurately and maintain detailed medical records

  • Deliver compassionate nursing care to hospitalized patients

  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding patient status and treatment plans

  • Collaborate with Veterinary Technicians, veterinarians, and support staff to provide exceptional patient care

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment area

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of Veterinary Technician experience in General Practice or Emergency Veterinary Medicine required

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred

  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthesia support, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory procedures

  • Knowledge of veterinary pharmacology and medication calculations

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced emergency environment

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to exceptional patient care

  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
