
Pharmacy Technician

We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support our hospital, responsible for managing pharmaceutical inventory, dispensing medications per DVM prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy programs and regulations.
General Purpose:
The Pharmacy Technician administers the pharmacy program for Animal Emergency and Specialty Center by managing the supply of all pharmaceuticals (controlled and non-controlled), dispensing medication per DVM prescription, and facilitates external prescriptions. Provides training and ensures compliance with pharmacy-related programs and policies. Management of records, documents, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.

- $22 - $27 hourly, based on experience

Key Areas of Responsibility:
Prescription Management:
- Fill prescriptions for hospitalized patients.
- Fill prescriptions for medications to go home. Support all departments in the hospital by accurately and quickly preparing all go home medication.
- Management of refill requests from clients and completes appropriate client communication associated with prescription readiness. Manages refills that are not picked up and returns to stock per protocol.
- Facilitate refills with external pharmacies by communicating refill authorization on behalf of DVM and their orders.
Pharmacy Stock Management
- Completes a daily cycle count of all controlled substances in the Cubex. Restocks controlled medications following cycle counts. Completes all tracking and logbooks and always maintains appropriate controls per policy.
- Responsible for stocking all Cubex machines in the hospital to meet variable demand. Works with the Inventory Coordinator to proactively order medications. In partnership with the Inventory Coordinator, completes required quarterly inventory counts. Ensure appropriate stock levels are accessible after Pharmacy Technician shift (nights/weekends).
Training and Compliance
- Trains new hires on proper medication filling processes in EzyVet, and in the Pharmacy. Trains new hires on proper functionality of the Cubex. Work with Managers and Leads to grant new hires Cubex permissions, as appropriate.
- Oversees daily compliance of medication and pharmacy related policies and procedures.
- Assists with the investigation and resolution of any discrepancies.
- Notifies Administration of any compliance concerns.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year work experience in a veterinary or human medicine role with exposure to pharmaceuticals OR 6 months work experience in a pharmacy.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years work experience as a Pharmacy Technician or 4 years work experience as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification.
- Ability to accurately calculate drug doses and understand units of measures.
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume workload area with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to comply with all local, state and federal regulations. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and anticipate the department's needs.
- Excellent communication.
