Clinical Veterinary Technician Manager - ECC

ECC - San Marcos, CA - Full Time

About Us

At VSH – North County, overnight ECC is where some of our most complex and critical medicine happens. As a 24/7, AAHA-accredited specialty and emergency hospital, our overnight teams manage high-acuity emergency and critical care cases with a high level of independence, trust, and clinical rigor.
Overnights here mean advanced anesthesia, ventilator management, CRIs, transfusions, post-op critical patients, and rapid stabilization — often without the safety net of a full daytime roster. This is an environment built for experienced ECC professionals who are confident in making decisions, supporting one another, and handling whatever comes through the doors at 2:00 am.

We are seeking an Overnight Clinical Technician Manager – Emergency & Critical Care who is deeply clinical, thrives in high-pressure situations, and leads from the floor. This role is 90% hands-on ECC medicine and 10% leadership and coordination, designed for someone who wants to stay sharp, support their overnight team in real time, and uphold an exceptional standard of care when it matters most.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • True ECC Medicine – High-acuity overnight cases with real autonomy and advanced protocols
  • Growth & Development – Free CE through VetBloom, mentorship, and exposure to advanced ECC and specialty cases
  •  Support That Gets It – Leadership that understands overnight challenges, plus access to an on-site social worker
  •  Perks for Your Pets – 75% employee discount, discounted food, and free wellness exams for blood donors
  •  Comprehensive Benefits – Medical, dental, vision, 3 weeks PTO, 401k, license reimbursement, and provided uniforms
  • Competitive compensation: 70,000 – 79,000k
What You’ll Be Doing (Overnight & On the Floor)

  • Place and manage catheters, run CRIs, monitor ventilated patients, assist with advanced anesthesia, and manage transfusions
  • Support emergency surgeries and procedures including thoracotomies, GDVs, and other life-saving interventions
  • Monitor and manage post-op specialty patients through the most critical overnight hours
Overnight Leadership & Decision-Making
  • Serve as the primary clinical leader overnight, supporting technicians and assistants during high-stress cases
  • Provide real-time coaching, troubleshooting, and escalation support when resources are limited
  • Maintain calm, clear communication during emergencies and critical events
Patient Flow & Hospital Operations
  • Coordinate emergency intake, inpatient care, and overnight discharges
  • Anticipate staffing and workflow needs based on caseload and acuity
  • Ensure smooth handoff communication to daytime teams
Hospital Readiness After Hours
  • Keep ECC and ICU areas clean, stocked, and prepared for high-acuity cases
  • Identify equipment, supply, or training gaps and address them proactively
  • Uphold safety, infection control, and controlled substance protocols overnight
A Small Amount of Admin
  • About 10% of the role includes overnight scheduling input, training support, and communication with leadership to improve overnight operations
Who You Are
  • RVT or equivalent ECC experience, confident managing advanced overnight cases
  • Clinically experienced in Emergency & Critical Care, including anesthesia, ventilators, CRIs, and unstable patients
  • A floor-first overnight leader who mentors, supports, and stabilizes both patients and people
  • Calm, decisive, and clear under pressure — especially when resources are limited
  • Someone who thrives on overnight autonomy, intensity, and teamwork
