Senior Veterinary Assistant – Surgery (Redwood City, CA)
Competitive Pay up to $35/hr + Shift Differentials ($5.50/hr for hours worked between 6pm–6am) Sign-On Bonus up to $3,000
Are you a skilled and experienced Senior Veterinary Assistant passionate about surgical care and animal health? SAGE Redwood City is seeking a dedicated Senior VA to support our surgical team and ensure exceptional care for pets before, during, and after surgery.
What You’ll Do:
Prepare surgical suites and sterilize instruments
Assist with patient prep and anesthesia monitoring
Support veterinarians during surgery, maintaining aseptic technique
Monitor recovery and administer medications as directed
Take and process radiographs (X-rays)
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure equipment is clean and functional
Communicate postoperative care instructions to clients
Assist in emergency surgical situations
What We’re Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent
Veterinary surgery experience preferred (not required)
Ability to monitor anesthesia and calculate drug doses
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Must obtain California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire (waived if RVT)
