
Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center (WVRC) is hiring a Certified Veterinary Technician to support our talented Anesthesia department in our brand-new state-of-the-art facility in Waukesha.
The ideal candidate is experienced in veterinary anesthesia, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates excellent critical thinking and patient care skills. Our Anesthesia team is part of a centralized department that is responsible for monitoring anesthetic cases hospital wide including services such as: Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Emergency, Critical Care and Ophthalmology. They operate under the supervision of the anesthesiologist and the specialty manager.
Schedule and Compensation:
4 x 10-hour shifts per week
On call requirements, specifics to be determined
Starting at $24/hr and up based on experience and skill level
Additional compensation is available for anesthesia on-call hours
Holidays = time and a half
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare patients for anesthesia and surgical procedures, including pre-op assessments, catheter placement, and pre-medication.
Induce, maintain, and monitor general anesthesia using a variety of agents and equipment.
Assist in post-operative recovery and monitoring, ensuring patient comfort and identifying potential complications.
Proficient in using WVRC anesthesia forms within Smartflow and EzyVet systems
Maintain and troubleshoot anesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, and related equipment.
Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, and assistants to ensure optimal patient care and procedural outcomes.
Maintain sterility and aseptic techniques, when situation warrants, in all anesthesia and surgical environments.
Stock and maintain anesthesia supplies and controlled drugs in compliance with regulations.
Assist with training and mentoring of junior staff or students as needed.
Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Required: Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, RVT).
VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia) is a plus.
A strong passion for high-quality anesthetic care before, during, and after procedures.
Fluent English skills (spoken and written); fluency in multiple language is a plus!
Must be able to lift patients or equipment up to 50lbs
Strong understanding of pharmacology, physiology, and anesthesia principles.
Excellent observational and documentation skills.
Ability to remain calm and focused during emergency situations.
Compassionate, patient-focused, and team-oriented mindset.
Strong communication and organizational skills are important.
While a strong foundation in anesthesia is needed, we are happy to train the right candidate!
Preferred but not required:
Proficiency with anesthetic agents, analgesics, and monitoring equipment.
Experience with advanced anesthesia techniques, including ventilator use, CRIs, and blood pressure management.
