Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant

$18.00–$28.00/hour (DOE)
Full-Time | Monday–Thursday | 8:00 AM–6:30 PM

Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine team. This is a full-time, four-day workweek supporting specialists and veterinary technicians caring for patients with complex and chronic medical conditions.

If you're an experienced Veterinary Assistant interested in specialty medicine, advanced diagnostics, endoscopy, ultrasound, and building your clinical skills, this is an opportunity to grow within a collaborative specialty hospital.

Duties:

  • Assist veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with Internal Medicine appointments, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
  • Provide hands-on patient care, monitoring, restraint, and nursing support.
  • Assist with patient preparation and recovery for diagnostic and specialty procedures.
  • Support procedures including endoscopy, rhinoscopy, and ultrasound.
  • Assist with collection and preparation of blood and other laboratory samples.
  • Support diagnostic imaging and radiographic procedures.
  • Prepare procedure areas, equipment, and supplies for Internal Medicine cases.
  • Monitor patients and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the medical team.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked treatment and procedure areas.
  • Maintain accurate patient information and documentation.
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and hospital team members.
  • Collaborate with Internal Medicine specialists, Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and other hospital departments to provide exceptional patient care.

Requirements:

  • Minimum one year of veterinary hospital experience preferred.
  • Previous Veterinary Assistant, Specialty Veterinary Assistant, ER Veterinary Assistant, or clinical animal hospital experience.
  • Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability and consistent follow-through.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently in a busy specialty hospital.
  • Interest in Internal Medicine, advanced diagnostics, and continued clinical development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a veterinary medical team.

Experience with endoscopy, rhinoscopy, ultrasound, anesthesia support, diagnostic imaging, or specialty veterinary medicine is a plus.
