Veterinary Surgery Assistant, ECVMC

Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center in Wilmington, NC is hiring an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join their outstanding Surgery team!
Compensation: $18 - $23/hr, based on experience and licensure.
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Three 12-hour shifts, or Five 8-hour shifts

Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center ( ECVMC) is seeking a Surgery Department Assistant to support our busy surgical team.
In this role, you’ll work closely with board-certified surgeons, anesthesiology staff, and surgical technicians to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care from pre-op through post-op recovery.
What You’ll Do:
- Safely handle and restrain animals with guidance from the medical team
- Help get patients ready for procedures (cleaning, moving patients, basic prep)
- Set up and clean surgery, prep, and recovery areas
- Wash, pack, and help sterilize surgical instruments
- Assist with moving patients between surgery and recovery areas
- Help monitor patients after procedures and report concerns to technicians
- Stock supplies and keep surgery areas clean and organized
- Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting to maintain a safe environment
- Support technicians, doctors, and the surgery team with basic tasks as needed
Requirements:
- Previous veterinary or medical experience preferred (training available for the right candidate)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
- Ability to safely lift and move patients up to 40 lbs
- Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus
- Reliable, team-oriented, and eager to learn
- Commitment to excellent patient care and teamwork
