Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center, Waukesha, is a 24/7 Emergency and Specialty Animal Hospital. WVRC offers a warm, friendly atmosphere where our main goal is to provide compassionate care to our patients and clients as well as offering outstanding customer service.
We are in search on an experienced veterinary assistant for our Ophthalmology Department. The Veterinary Technician Assistant provides key support to the technician and veterinarian staff. Must be friendly, professional and courteous, and capable of handling several tasks at once with frequent interruptions. Must be able to take direction from multiple staff members while adhering to training standards.
Schedule and Compensation:
This is a full-time position
The schedule will be 4/10's. Any combination of days with a Monday-Friday
4 holidays per year will be required
No weekends!
Hourly pay starts at $17 and may be higher depending on experience
Essential Functions:
Multi-tasking and attention to detail skills are required. Must have the ability to stand for much of the work period and enough stamina to work past the regularly scheduled shifts, if needed.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Restraining patients for exams, treatments or procedures, with special care for Ophthalmology procedures.
- Client education / communication: Must be able to communicate well with clients, as well as showing care and concern for their pets
- Routinely check department voicemail.
- Relay doctor messages and blood work results to clients, if appropriate.
- Organize the next day’s appointments - include reading medical records to acquire proper information.
- Accurately enter notes into medical records.
- Assist with recovery of patients that have undergone procedures under sedation or anesthesia.
- Stocking the treatment areas
- Cleaning kennels, floors, and treatment areas, and assist with laundry
- Assist in diagnostic testing (schirmer tear test, tonometry, ocular ultrasound, electroretinogram)
- Able to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community.

- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Assistant in an animal hospital setting is required.
- Must have excellent attention to detail skills.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Must be organized.
- Must take direction well.
- Must have good telephone etiquette.
