Veterinary Assistant, Ophthalmology | Ophthalmology Department | $18–$22/hr | Full-Time Benefits | Tuesday–Friday + 1 Saturday/Month | Plainview, NY
Join Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) as a Veterinary Assistant in our Ophthalmology department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who loves working with animals, enjoys a fast-paced specialty environment, and wants to build a rewarding career in veterinary medicine. As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll work closely with our Ophthalmology team, supporting patient care, assisting with procedures, and helping deliver an exceptional experience for both pets and their families.
Compensation
- $18–$22/hour, based on experience and skillset
- Tuesday–Friday
- 1 Saturday per month

- VTS Support
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with ophthalmology appointments, diagnostics, and treatments
- Provide compassionate care and support for patients throughout their visit
- Safely restrain patients for examinations and procedures
- Support hospitalized patient care, including feeding, walking, monitoring, and maintaining cleanliness
- Prepare examination rooms, treatment areas, and equipment
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
- Follow hospital cleaning and infection control protocols
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and team members
- Assist other hospital departments as needed to support patient care and hospital operations
- Previous veterinary assistant experience preferred, but not required
- Passion for working with animals and the people who love them
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment
- Professional communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Flexible, dependable, and willing to help where needed
- Ability to lift 40+ pounds and stand for extended periods
- Comfortable learning new skills and adapting to changing priorities
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
