Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center (AVECCC) is hiring a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) – Emergency & Critical Care to join our high-volume, 24-hour emergency and critical care hospital in Peoria, AZ. This is an advanced clinical opportunity for a credentialed veterinary technician with VTS certification who wants to practice at the highest level of emergency and critical care medicine while helping develop clinical standards and mentor the next generation of veterinary technicians.

In Your Day-to-Day You Will

  • Provide advanced nursing care for critically ill and unstable veterinary patients across the Emergency and Critical Care teams

  • Manage and prioritize the workflow of complex critical care cases in collaboration with veterinarians and Critical Care specialists

  • Participate actively in daily patient rounds, communicating clinical findings, treatment priorities, and changes in patient condition

  • Manage patients requiring advanced critical care interventions, including mechanical ventilation, dialysis, total plasma exchange, and high-flow oxygen therapy

  • Apply advanced clinical knowledge to patient assessment, treatment, monitoring, and ongoing critical care management

  • Collaborate with Criticalists and Critical Care Residents to deliver evidence-based, gold-standard patient care

  • Serve as a clinical resource for veterinary technicians and other members of the ECC team

  • Mentor veterinary technicians and support team members who are developing advanced critical care skills

  • Identify opportunities to improve patient care, workflow, and clinical outcomes within Emergency and Critical Care

  • Help develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) that establish consistent clinical standards across the ECC teams

  • Share specialty knowledge and promote advanced emergency and critical care techniques throughout the hospital

  • Partner with veterinary leadership and training teams to identify clinical education needs

  • Maintain current specialty knowledge through continuing education, professional development, and engagement with current veterinary literature

Clinical Education & Leadership

  • Partner with the Head of Training to develop AVECCC Academy course content and specialty training roadmaps

  • Design and deliver advanced ECC training for veterinary technicians and support staff

  • Create and teach courses for AVECCC employees and the broader veterinary community

  • Develop training programs that support technicians pursuing specialty certification

  • Mentor aspiring VTS candidates and provide guidance on the VTS application and examination process

  • Help veterinary technicians understand specialty pathways and develop the clinical skills necessary to pursue VTS certification

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert and advocate for excellence in veterinary emergency and critical care

What We’re Looking For

  • Credentialed veterinary technician (CVT) with VTS certification

  • Specialty experience in Emergency and Critical Care

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex critical care patients and overseeing ECC workflow

  • Advanced knowledge of critical care nursing, monitoring, and treatment

  • Experience or proficiency with advanced therapies such as mechanical ventilation, dialysis, total plasma exchange, or high-flow oxygen therapy preferred

  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to prioritize multiple critically ill patients

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Passion for mentoring, teaching, and developing veterinary professionals

  • Ability to contribute to SOP development and clinical quality improvement

  • Dependable, compassionate, and committed to exceptional patient care

  • Passion for advancing the practice of veterinary Emergency and Critical Care
