Veterinary Assistant, Emergency | $20–$25/hr
Location: Latham, NY
Schedule: Full-Time | Three 12-hour shifts per week
Compensation: $20–$25/hour + $3.50/hour overnight differential + Double Pay on holidays


Join Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital as a full-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Latham, NY. Work alongside experienced Veterinary Technicians and emergency veterinarians while gaining hands-on clinical experience in a fast-paced specialty and emergency animal hospital.

This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant looking to continue growing their skills, expand their knowledge of emergency medicine, and build a strong foundation toward becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Schedule
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Shift options may include:
    • 7:00am-7:00pm
    • 7:00pm-7:00am
    • Occasional 10:00am-10:00pm
    • Occasional 2:00pm-2:00am
  • Overnight and weekend availability required
Responsibilities
  • Safely restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Provide nursing support and basic animal husbandry for hospitalized patients
  • Assist with maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Perform nail trims and suture/staple removals as directed
  • Support emergency clinicians with patient care, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment environment
  • Deliver compassionate care to patients and exceptional service to clients
  • Collaborate with technicians, assistants, and veterinarians to provide high-quality emergency care
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in veterinary medicine
  • Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing a Veterinary Technician program preferred
  • Understanding of animal restraint, patient handling, and safety protocols
  • Knowledge of proper sanitation, hygiene, and aseptic techniques
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional growth in veterinary medicine
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
