Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Overnight Emergency & ICU team in Birmingham, AL. This is an opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Technician to provide hands-on emergency and critical care while working alongside a collaborative team in a specialty veterinary hospital.

Schedule

• Full-time

• Three 12-hour overnight shifts

• 7:45 PM–8:00 AM

• Weekend and holiday availability required as part of the Emergency & ICU schedule

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with emergency patient assessments, treatments, and procedures

• Provide hands-on nursing care and monitoring for hospitalized Emergency and ICU patients

• Monitor patient status and promptly communicate changes to veterinarians and the medical team

• Perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, and laboratory sample collection

• Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian

• Provide anesthesia support and patient monitoring during emergency procedures

• Perform diagnostic imaging and assist with laboratory testing

• Accurately calculate medication dosages and maintain detailed medical records

• Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding patient status and treatment plans

• Collaborate with Veterinary Technicians, veterinarians, and support team members to provide high-quality emergency and critical care

• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment and patient care area

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in general practice or emergency veterinary medicine

• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred

• Strong technical skills in venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthesia support, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory procedures

• Working knowledge of veterinary pharmacology and medication calculations

• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced Emergency and ICU environment

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to remain calm, organized, and focused while caring for emergency and critical patients

• Compassionate approach to patient care and client service

• Commitment to continued learning and professional development

• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
