The neurology department includes both neurology and neurosurgery and has MRI and CT imaging capabilities. The Neurology technician will be responsible for monitoring anesthesia during MRI procedures and neurosurgery cases. There is a great opportunity to learn about interesting, but unfortunate, neurological diseases and how the brain works.

We are seeking a candidate that is outgoing and independent with positive attitude. Interested individuals must have a drive to learn and grow while keeping pace with a heavy caseload. Excellent communication skills are must. The technician must be able to facilitate communication and patient care between clients, doctors, and assistants. The candidate must be able to react in any given situation in a professional and efficient manner.

OPVES/MVES is seeking Veterinary Technicians for their growing veterinary hospitals in Kansas City neurology-neurosurgery Unit

You are a competent, and confident individual who possesses strong anesthesia, patient monitoring, surgical assisting, and anesthetic recovery skills. You are proficient in IVC placement, sample collection/preparation, and have knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications and anesthetic agents. You can accurately perform a variety of drug calculations and provide meticulous veterinary nursing care to your patients.

You must enjoy interacting and communicating with clients routinely. Our technicians provide regular updates to clients regarding their pet’s medical status, at home care, and continued management of complex neurological conditions in conjunction with our team of neurologists.

Pay Range: $23/hr-$27/hr

 

Job PurposeIn this Neurology Technician position, you will work as a part of the Neurology team to ensure exceptional patient care and provide overall support and assistance to all departments, doctors, and hospital team members. The person in this position is a direct conduit for all Neurology needs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in creating patient estimates and treatment plan formulation for neurological patients
  • Proficiency in obtaining patient medical history
  • Proficiency in admitting and discharging patients within the Neurology service.
  • Demonstrate exceptional client communication and education as well as assistance with scheduling appointments, surgeries, and advanced imaging 
  • Proficient in aseptic surgical area preparation and surgical supply sterilization preparation
  • Practices proper and safe patient restraint of the neurological patient
  • Demonstrate the ability to place and maintain urinary catheters properly and safely
  • Proficient in performing general venipuncture, peripheral catheter placement and maintenance

Neurology Anesthesia-related Skill set & Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-anesthesia examinations to determine safety and risk for Neurology cases.
  • Implement prescribed anesthetic plans from pre anesthesia through recover including monitoring throughout.
  • Perform patient pain assessments and develop proposed analgesic plans for neurology cases using multimodal pain management techniques.
  • Understand and use Smart flow anesthesia monitoring forms/protocols
  • Proficiency in setting up and troubleshooting anesthesia machinery
  • Understand hemodynamics of anesthesia-related hypotension and possess ability to troubleshoot anesthetic complications
  • Accurately evaluate a patient’s ventilation and oxygenation status utilizing pulse oximetry and capnography 

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology.

·         Ability to communicate well with other staff members.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to work independently and with little or no supervision

·         Ability to multi-task and produce quality work while making effective decisions
