Job Title: Medical Director, MVES and OPVES Job Status: Regular; Full-Time
Schedule: Exempt Supervisor: Managing DVM
Job Purpose: The Medical Director is a leader and integral member of the hospital team. The Medical Director promotes quality and compassionate veterinary care throughout the hospital. The Medical Director provides leadership to associate veterinarians and support staff, creating a team environment, and overseeing the compliance of standard of care. The Medical Director understands that clients are our most valuable resource and the hospital’s main focus is to meet the needs of our clients and their pets. These goals will be achieved by working in collaboration with the Managing DVM (MDVM) and Hospital Administrators (HA).

Position Responsibilities
Standards of Care:
- Be a pioneer and advocate for improving patient care standards, implementing new technologies and therapies, and ensuring best care for our patients in a growing system.
- Provide oversight of medical standards including modifying or establishing medical protocols. Works closely with the Leadership Team to implement the protocols.
- Problem solves with staff to improve efficiency of rounds and transferring cases with the goal to work as a team for patient care.
- Provide support to primary care veterinarians. Consult on cases, support veterinarians with their complicated cases, and provide up-to-date information to enhance their standard of care.
- Oversee administration and case review of client medical complaints and resolves the problems when possible.
- Review all cases sent to the Veterinary Medical Board and completes all case reviews and submissions involved.
- Mentor and coach doctors to promote and develop high quality performance and standards.
- Lead veterinarians and staff in setting Standards of Care for the hospital.
- Focus on innovation and teamwork to ensure a progressive and innovative practice.
- Help to identify areas for hospital improvement in client and patient care.
- Work with MDVM and HAs to ensure that all veterinarians in the practice are keeping medical records current and complete, communicating with clients to answer questions, ensure their schedules are appropriately available for client appointments, and that our veterinarians are making our clients and their pets top priority.
- Provide insight and understanding of local markets and relationships with referring general practice veterinarians to support client needs.
Leadership and Medical Oversight:
- Maintain a team approach to operating the hospital.
- Assist in the recruitment of new talent along with the continued development and innovation of the hospital’s talent pipeline.
- Works cooperatively with the Division Leader, MDVM, HAs, and the ETHOS Support Center personnel.
- Participate in the interviewing process for veterinarian and leadership roles.
- Provide cooperative oversight of veterinarian onboarding and training along with MDVM, HM’s, HR, and Training and Development Manager.
- Attend and participate/lead in team meetings when pertinent/necessary.
- Alert MDVM and HAs of any ongoing issues pertaining to veterinarian performance.
- Deliver performance feedback as needed for veterinarians that are not meeting responsibilities medically, culturally, and/or other ways that are unsatisfactory to their job roles.
- Provide direct mentorship of all veterinarians to include both professional and medical growth, with guidance and involvement in CE development directed toward improving medical care and soft skills such as leadership and communications
- Partner with leadership to maintain relationships with primary care veterinarians and improve referral caseload.
- Evaluate and work with hospital team leaders to continually assess and revise efficiency and workflow.
- Assist in researching new hospital equipment and ensure compliance of standard operating procedures after implementation.
