Compensation: $18-23/hr, depending on experience 

Schedule: Four, 10-hour shifts per week

Role Summary: The Veterinary Technician Assistant – Surgery Receiving will engage in responsibilities combined between receiving and sterilization. This role will be “home based” out of the surgery receiving area with time occasionally spent in sterilization. This role will also provide support in the anesthesia induction area as needed.   

Position Responsibilities:   

  • Instrument preparation and sterilization: Clean, soak, decontaminate, dry, wrap, and load instruments into autoclave or gas sterilizer (including Anprolene certification), ensuring sterile conditions for OR use. 

  • OR restocking and turnover: Restock OR supplies (sutures, instruments, needles, syringes, micro extension sets), clean ORs and sterile hallways, and manage nitrogen tank changes. 

  • Client and patient support: Communicate with clients to obtain histories, schedule appointments, address post-op concerns, provide discharge instructions, handle prescriptions, assist with patient transport, restraint, grooming, and bandage changes, and coordinate with the surgical team for diagnostics and lab follow-ups. 

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, communication logs, handle department voicemail, client callbacks and documentation. Educate and communicate with clients regarding their pet's condition, treatment plans, review of estimates, and follow-up care.  

  • End-of-day and ICU tasks: Clean and restock the anesthesia induction area, wet table, and ICU spaces, including endotracheal tubes and laundry, and ensure cages and ICU runs are sanitized after patient discharge. 

Requirements:   

  • 1+ year of prior veterinary experience  

  • Attention to detail, with strong organizational and communication skills with both clients and team members. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.  

  • Flexibility to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary.  

  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
