Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital is seeking an Certified Veterinary Technician, experience in anesthesia, to join our specialty and emergency team in Portsmouth, NH.

This full-time CVT position offers the opportunity to provide advanced anesthetic care across Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Emergency/Critical Care while continuing to grow your anesthesia skills through structured training and mentorship.


Compensation

Responsibilities
As an Anesthesia Veterinary Technician, you will provide safe, attentive anesthetic and nursing care for surgical, medical, and emergency patients across multiple specialty services.
  • Safely induce, maintain, monitor, and recover anesthetized patients
  • Review patient history, diagnostics, and anesthetic plans prior to procedures
  • Calculate and administer anesthetic medications, CRIs, and supportive therapies
  • Monitor anesthesia using advanced monitoring equipment and respond appropriately to patient changes
  • Maintain accurate anesthetic and treatment records
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, specialists, and nursing staff
  • Assist with advanced procedures, including orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, neurosurgery, imaging procedures, and interventional procedures
  • Provide postoperative nursing care and pain management
  • Apply strong Veterinary Technician nursing skills, including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, patient restraint, medication administration, and patient care
  • Support patient safety initiatives and hospital standards of care
  • Participate in continuing education, anesthesia training, and competency development
Port City is committed to developing skilled anesthesia Veterinary Technicians. CVTs with strong foundational Vet Tech skills who have limited advanced anesthesia experience are encouraged to apply and develop through structured technical onboarding, mentorship, anesthesia competency training, advanced case exposure, RECOVER certification support, and continuing education.

Qualifications
  • Current Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) license in New Hampshire required
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Minimum 3 years of Veterinary Technician experience in a clinical setting
  • Strong foundational technical nursing skills, including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, patient restraint, medication administration, and patient care
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced specialty and emergency animal hospital environment
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to exceptional patient care and client service
  • Willingness to participate in hospital-provided anesthesia training, mentorship, and competency development programs
  • Advanced anesthesia monitoring experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of anesthetic drugs, analgesics, CRIs, and patient monitoring preferred
  • Specialty or referral hospital experience preferred
  • RECOVER BLS and/or ALS certification preferred
  • Fear Free Certification preferred
  • Mechanical ventilation experience preferred
  • Experience managing ASA III–V patients preferred
  • VTS in Anesthesia & Analgesia, ECC, or Surgery—or candidates actively pursuing specialty certification—encouraged to apply
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
