Assistant Hospital Services Manager, Inpatient Services | $85,000+ annually, based on experience | Woburn, MA
 

Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital is seeking an Assistant Hospital Services Manager, Inpatient Services to support the leadership and daily operations of our inpatient teams in Woburn, MA. This role provides operational and clinical oversight of our ICU and inpatient services, partnering closely with doctors, technicians, and hospital leadership to ensure exceptional patient care, efficient workflows, and a collaborative team environment.

Compensation:

  • $85,000/yr +, commensurate with experience

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 4-day work week with a combination of day and evening shifts, including one weekend shift.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide operational and clinical oversight of Inpatient Services, including ICU and inpatient ward workflows.
  • Collaborate with doctors, technicians, and clinical supervisors to support and maintain advanced patient care delivery and continuity of care for hospitalized patients.
  • Monitor inpatient census, patient acuity, and staffing needs to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient resource allocation across all shifts.
  • Engage in real-time workspace assessment/quality control, staffing adjustments and workflow management to support centralized inpatient care operations while managing labor within budget expectations.
  • Support centralized care structures and coordinated patient management between Emergency and all Specialty care primarily Critical Care but inclusive of strong collaboration with anesthesia and Surgery across all inpatient teams.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standardized inpatient workflows, treatment coordination processes, and operational protocols.
  • Evaluate and maintain departmental resource needs, including staffing, equipment, and operational support tools, and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Ensure inpatient treatment and hospitalization areas are routinely audited to remain clean, organized, functional, safe, and OSHA compliant.
  • Support implementation and adherence to hospital standards related to infection prevention, patient safety, controlled substances, and equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor workflow efficiencies with close assessment of on shift performance of team and identify opportunities to improve patient flow, operational consistency, and quality of care.
  • Support onboarding, training, mentoring, and development of inpatient technicians and support staff.
  • Promote a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on accountability, communication, efficiency, and exceptional patient care.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary processes for inpatient support staff.
  • Assist with departmental meetings, operational planning, and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between hospital departments to ensure seamless patient transitions and continuity of care.
  • Resolve payroll matters, report Workers’ Compensation claims, and perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
Education, License and Job Requirements:
  • 5 or more years of experience in field of expertise.
  • Veterinary industry experience required.
  • Experience in emergency, specialty, critical care, or inpatient veterinary operations preferred.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role.
Skills and Experience:
  • 1+ years in a supervisory role required.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing staffing, workflow coordination, and operational efficiency in a fast -paced hospital environment.
  • Understanding of advanced inpatient care operations and centralized patient care models preferred.
