WHO ARE WE? NVS is a 24/7 veterinary specialty and emergency hospital. We are located in a recently expanded 24,000 square foot hospital with digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), on-site magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, endoscopy, access to an on-site commercial laboratory, and more. Job Summary: The Veterinary Technician Assistant (VTA) - Specialty the technicians in carrying out their day to day duties in our specialty services. They are also in charge of hospital cleanliness and restocking of supplies. Higher level assistants may also take radiographs and run blood work as necessary.
Position Responsibilities:
- Restrains patients for exams/procedures
- Set-up patient beds for in-patients
- Set-up for procedures (i.e. central lines, sampling lines, NG tube, urethral unblocking, etc.)
- Stocks supplies (i.e. catheters, scrub, alcohol, syringes, pee pads, fluids, fluid lines, etc.)
- Maintains laundry throughout shift
- Maintains yard- Scoop poop, empty/change trash bag, clean up general debris, disinfect/deodorize
- Collects trash/recycling- take out to trash/recycle bins at end of shift- do not leave for cleaning crew
- Maintains hospital cleanliness
- Makes flushes
- Makes bandages
- Deep cleaning hospital (scrubbing cage doors, cleaning under O2 cage, wiping down above cages, etc.)
- Cleans kitchen- sign off on sheet
- Cleans bathroom- sign off on sheet
- Coordinates with other VTA’s during shift change if applicable.
Qualifications:
- One (1) year of animal handling experience required
- Knowledge of some veterinary medical terminology and experience in a veterinary setting is preferred, but not required.
- Adapts to stressful situations with grace under pressure.
- Works well in a team environment
- PC Skills/ (ezyVet or similar veterinary platform experience a plus)

Physical/Environmental Requirements: This job classification requires that the applicant be capable of standing continuously for up to four hours with little or no breaks during; sitting; required to lift and carry animals weighing fifty pounds or more; handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.; reaching; speaking; seeing; and hearing. This job classification also involves repetitive use of the hands, wrists, and arms. Individuals must be able to meet the minimum dexterity requirements of the position. This position involves a potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and the use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
