About The Role:
A Veterinary Assistant for Oncology supports specialized cancer care for pets. Key duties include:
- Patient Care: Safely restrain pets, assist with chemotherapy, and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Diagnostics & Treatments: Collect samples, prepare equipment, and assist with imaging and procedures.
- Client Support: Provide emotional reassurance and explain post-treatment care.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate treatment logs and patient files.
- Safety Compliance: Follow protocols for handling chemotherapy agents, using PPE.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with oncologists and staff on individualized care plans.
Compassion, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards are vital for this role.
Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent (required); veterinary assistant/technician certification preferred.
- Previous experience in a veterinary specialty or oncology setting is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a client-focused approach.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with practice management software (e.g., ezyvet, smartflow, vetrocket, etc.) and basic computer skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
- Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and assisting with animal restraint.
- Compassionate and empathetic client care.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and support for the oncology team.
- Dedication to continuous learning and improvement in a specialized field.
Full-time position with a mix of administrative and clinical support hours. Flexibility to
accommodate department needs, including occasional evenings or weekends, may be required.
Compensation: $19 - $33 hourly
