About SAGE Concord:
Our SAGE Concord location opened a brand-new state-of-the-art facility in the summer of 2022! It is the largest Specialty and Emergency Hospital in the East Bay area. Our next-generation facility has allowed SAGE Concord to significantly expand its Emergency, Specialty, and Urgent Care services to the growing East Bay community.
Our Specialty offerings consist of Emergency, Critical Care, Cardiology, Integrative Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, and Surgery. This new facility features multiple advanced Surgery suites, as well as sophisticated Trauma response and Critical Care capabilities. Our vision in SAGE Concord is to continue the expansion of SAGE’s existing services to meet the ongoing demand for additional services in our community.
About the role: Veterinary Assistants play a vital support role in delivering exceptional emergency and intensive care to patients under the supervision of licensed veterinarians and RVTs.
Schedule: Sunday-Wednesday 10:30 pm-9:00 am
Compensation: $22 - $30/hr
Differentials: $5.50/hr paid differential for any hours worked between 6pm-6am
- Monitor and record patients’ vital signs and behavior changes.
- Provide compassionate and attentive care to hospitalized and critical patients.
- Assist in restraint, positioning, and comfort care of animals during procedures.
- Administer oral and topical medications as directed by a veterinarian or RVT.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of IV fluids and injections (under supervision).
- Prepare patients and equipment for procedures and diagnostic imaging.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked CCU treatment and housing area.
- Sanitize cages, kennels, and work areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Assist with equipment setup, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
- Communicate clearly with medical team members regarding patient status and needs.
- Provide timely updates to the team on critical care patient observations.
- Offer emotional support and guidance to pet owners during critical situations as directed.
- Accurately document patient treatments and observations in the medical record.
- Assist in the completion of medication logs and controlled substance documentation (VACSP required).
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.

Basic Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- 2+ years of clinical experience, preferably in a CCU setting
- Strong interpersonal skills
- High level of venipuncture skills, math calculations, and patient handling
