We are seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our Neuro team!
About the role:
This role provides essential support to our veterinary neurologists and technicians, ensuring high-quality patient care for animals with neurological conditions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for veterinary medicine, excellent patient-handling skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the restraint, handling, and positioning of patients for neurological examinations, imaging (MRI/CT), and procedures.
- Support neurologists and technicians during consultations, diagnostics, and treatments, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection and seizure management.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, surgical suites, and specialized neurology equipment.
- Monitor patients pre- and post-procedure, ensuring comfort and reporting any concerns to the medical team.
- Assist with medication administration, including oral and injectable medications, under supervision.
- Provide client communication and education, offering guidance on at-home care for pets with neurological conditions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure proper documentation of procedures.
- Handle laboratory samples and coordinate diagnostic testing.
- Support the hospital team in inventory management of neurology-specific medications and supplies.
- Uphold infection control and safety protocols for patients, staff, and clients.
- Prior experience as a veterinary assistant or in a specialty/referral practice preferred.
- Strong animal-handling skills, particularly with neurologically compromised patients.
- Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative team environment and under pressure.
- Basic understanding of neurology-specific medical terminology, procedures, and treatments is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with both clients and veterinary professionals.
- Passion for patient care and willingness to learn specialized neurology skills.
- Ability to lift and restrain animals of various sizes safely.
- Experience in a neurology or specialty hospital setting.
- Familiarity with MRI, CT, and advanced imaging procedures.
- Knowledge of neurological conditions such as epilepsy, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), and vestibular disease.
- Certification as a Veterinary Assistant (or RVT/LVT in training) is a plus.
Pay and Benefits:
- Highly competitive and comparable wages based on experience and skill set.
- Pay Range: $20-$30/hr
- Competitive Vet Assistant and RVT CE allowance annually
- License application and renewal reimbursement for RVT’s
