ARISE is a 24-hour veterinary emergency and critical care (AVECCC) and specialty hospital in Queen Creek, AZ. We have the most skilled doctors in the state and provide significantly complex treatments in the western US. The teams in this department work closely with surgeons, oncologists, internists, radiologists, and a critical care team to provide the highest quality care to our patients. Job Purpose: The Hospital Manager is a leader and an integral member of the hospital management team. The Hospital Manager (HM) partners with the Managing Veterinarian (MDVM) and the Hospital Director (HD) to provide a smooth and profitable operation by driving revenue and managing costs while creating a hospital culture based on high quality patient care and exceptional customer service.
Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Leadership and Planning
- Collaborates in a leadership role with the Managing Veterinarian and Hospital Director as the “owners” of the hospital’s success.
- Oversees the hospital schedule and manages labor costs to budget.
- Participates in the weekly leadership meetings with a solution-oriented and collaborative mindset
- Establishes goals for the practice and staff.
- Acts as a champion for change and identifies, documents, shares, and promotes best practices.
- Consciously shapes a positive hospital culture based on trust and teamwork that caters to the needs of our clients and referring veterinarians.
- Exhibits a calming, humble and teachable attitude whilst having the ability to address decisive change through the hospital.
- Plans and leads a cadence of employee and department meetings.
- Educates employees on hospital policies and procedures, medical protocols, and client interactions.
- Develops and implements hospital policy, including DEA/Controlled Substances and OSHA compliance.
- Performs quality checks and reviews of client files.
- Monitors computer systems and works with HelpDesk to resolve technical systems/equipment issues.
- Work with the Charge Nurses of both Specialty and ER departments to develop and maintain systems for communication and handling of patients between departments, including transfers, after hour exams/procedures, and transport between sister hospitals.
- Develops in-depth understanding of local market and relationships with referring general practice veterinarians to understand their needs.
- Identifies and executes short- and long-term plans for growth, including the addition of new services, recruitment of doctors and other key team members, pricing strategies, space optimization, and acquisitions of new equipment
- Participates in the oversight of the employee benefits program and hospital insurance plans.
- Works with the Managing Veterinarian, Human resources, and Hospital Director to oversee staffing needs including hiring, training, disciplining and terminating as required.
- Recruits new employees and participates in the selection process.
- Oversees the completion of employee orientation, training and performance appraisals.
- Coaches and mentors employees and identifies continuous learning and skill building needs.
- Implements performance-based incentive and rewards and recognition programs
- Mediates conflict and maintains employee morale.
- Manages staff
- Reinforces hospital team agreements, modeling that each team member is responsible for the hospital culture
- Drives client visits through strategic client communication and local marketing efforts (i.e. Community).
- Trains staff on client service initiatives and uses client visit growth best practices.
- Demonstrates and reinforces the highest level of client service.
- Manages client relationships; effectively resolves client issues and escalations
- Oversees client follow-up procedures.
- Utilizes client service initiative measurements to evaluate hospital and staff performance.
- Ensures payroll is accurately completed and submitted for all hospital staff.
- Oversees accounts receivable and weekly revenue
- Continually drives revenue and manages costs to budget.
- Performs invoice audit reviews.
- Manages employee balances
- Manages inventory and oversees the semi-annual inventory process.
- Approval of any promissory notes or payment plans outside of regular options
- Work with senior leaders to control all facility and administrative costs.
- Ensure the calculation and processing of DVM production payments occurs.
