Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center in Wilmington, NC is hiring an experienced Anesthesia Recovery Technician to join our outstanding Surgery team!

$1,500 Sign-On Bonus available to RVT candidates, with the potential for up to $3,000 for RVTs with advanced anesthesia experience, pending a skills assessment.


Compensation: $19.00–$35.00/hr, based on experience and licensure

Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 9:00AM – 6:00PM

Are you passionate about patient care and thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment? Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center is seeking a skilled and attentive Anesthesia Recovery Technician to support our specialty surgery team.

About You: As a vital member of our surgical team, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring safe and smooth recoveries for post-operative patients. You’ll work closely with anesthesia, surgery, and ICU teams to monitor patients, respond to complications, and provide hands-on nursing care during one of the most crucial phases of treatment.

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Closely monitor patients during the anesthesia recovery phase
  • Track and record vital parameters (HR, RR, SpO₂, temperature, blood pressure)
  • Recognize and respond to recovery complications such as dysphoria, hypothermia, and airway concerns
  • Provide hands-on nursing care including extubation, pain assessment, and comfort measures
  • Assist with patient preparation, including radiographs and OR setup/teardown
  • Fill medications and submit lab samples
  • Communicate effectively with anesthesia, surgery, and ICU teams
  • Assist with patient transfers and provide thorough handoffs to ICU or wards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked recovery area
  • Support the anesthesia team during high caseload periods

Requirements:

  • Veterinary assistant or technician experience required
  • Previous anesthesia or recovery experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of anesthetic monitoring and recovery protocols
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care
