As a Per Diem Veterinary Technician at Veterinary Emergency + Referral Center of Hawaii (VERC), you'll work alongside board-certified specialists and experienced emergency clinicians, providing advanced patient care while supporting one of Hawaii's premier specialty and emergency hospitals.

Per Diem Requirements: This is a casual, as-needed position designed for experienced veterinary professionals looking to pick up shifts based on hospital needs and their availability.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

Triage incoming emergency patients and prioritize care based on medical urgency.
Partner with veterinarians during patient assessments, diagnostics, treatments, and emergency procedures.
Place and maintain intravenous catheters and assist with advanced nursing care.
Collect and process laboratory samples, including blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
Perform and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures.
Administer, monitor, and recover patients undergoing sedation and anesthesia.
Monitor hospitalized patients and promptly communicate changes in patient condition.
Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records.
Provide compassionate communication and exceptional client service.
Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.

What You Bring

Minimum of two years of veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience in a progressive general practice or at least one year in a specialty or emergency hospital.
Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred but not required.
Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Ability to calculate medication dosages, fluid rates, CRIs, and treatment protocols accurately.
Excellent patient handling and technical nursing skills.
Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and professional in a fast-paced emergency environment.
A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
