We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead Ethos Veterinary Health’s National Blood Banking Program and strategy. In this role, you will be responsible for providing direction on the operations and clinical practice of multiple blood banks in strategic locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in blood banking, leadership skills, and experience in project management and expansion initiatives. This position is remote, with an expected travel commitment of around 50% for the initial six months, transitioning to 25% thereafter and will report into the Ethos Director of Nursing within the Medical Leadership team.  


Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the strategic planning and development of new blood donor programs and banks in targeted geographies, informing site selection, facility design, equipment procurement, and staffing. 

  • Establish policies, procedures, and quality standards for new blood programs and banks to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry guidelines, and best practices. 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including medicine, strategy, operations, finance, legal, and regulatory affairs, IT, and Marketing to ensure the successful development and launch of new blood bank projects. 

  • Provide oversight and guidance to the management teams of existing blood banks to ensure efficient operations and compliance with regulatory standards. 

  • Develop and monitor program metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of blood bank operations.

  • Collaborate with marketing and outreach teams to promote awareness of blood banking services and drive donor recruitment efforts. 

  • Works to identify and highlight hospital program successes and accomplishments both internally and externally. 

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in blood banking technology, and regulatory changes to inform decision-making and strategic planning. 

  • Manage internal blood bank directory. 

  • Mentor and cultivate the professional growth of staff across multiple blood banks.  Demonstrate proficiency in training hospital teams on clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the correct utilization of blood processing equipment, promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration, and ongoing enhancement. 

  • Facilitate blood product vendor due diligence to ensure vendors adhere to industry standards and Ethos' quality benchmarks for blood banking procedures. 

Requirements: 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology. 

  • Credentialed as a Veterinary Nurse/Technician; Veterinary Nurse/Technician Specialty in SAIM or ECC preferred. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in blood banking, including experience in leadership or management roles. 

  • Proven track record of successfully establishing and managing multiple blood bank facilities or similar healthcare operations. 

  • Strong understanding of industry guidelines and regulatory requirements for blood donor programs, blood banking, and component products sales including FDA, state, and local regulations where applicable  

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion within established timelines and budgets. 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. 

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans for expanding blood banking services and facilities. 

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve organizational goals and objectives. 

  • Knowledge of veterinary healthcare finance, budgeting, and financial analysis. 

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
