Charleston Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC), located in beautiful Charleston, SC, is a VECCS Level 1 certified facility, with our emergency center staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to support our community. Specialty services offered at CVRC include cardiology, internal medicine, neurology & neurosurgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, rehabilitation, and soft tissue & orthopedic surgery. Our hospital houses MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and digital radiography for advanced diagnostic imaging.
About the Role:
The Radiation Therapist plays a critical role in delivering safe, precise, and effective radiation therapy treatments to veterinary patients. Working closely with the Radiation Oncologist and specialty team, this role blends advanced technical expertise with hands-on patient care.
This position is ideal for a Radiation Therapist who is passionate about both technical excellence and compassionate animal care. Candidates with human radiation therapy backgrounds who are excited to expand into veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply — training in veterinary-specific skills and animal handling will be provided.
Requirements:
Graduate of a JRCERT-accredited Radiation Therapy program or minimum 2 years of clinical radiation therapy experience
ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy (or ARRT Board exam eligible)
Eligible for South Carolina licensure as a radiologic technologist
Dosimetry experience or willingness to learn treatment planning and contouring
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization abilities
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity
Excellent communication skills with clients, doctors, and team members
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to patient safety and quality care
Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
Essential Responsibilities:
Perform CT simulation, immobilization, and patient positioning for radiation therapy treatments
Deliver radiation therapy accurately and safely according to prescribed treatment plans
Review radiation prescriptions, treatment plans, setup instructions, and consent documentation prior to treatment
Visually monitor patients during radiation therapy procedures
Perform and document equipment quality assurance and safety checks
Maintain accurate treatment records, simulation data, and patient documentation
Collaborate closely with the Radiation Oncologist and clinical team to support treatment planning and patient care
Educate clients on treatment processes and answer questions within scope of practice
Assist veterinary technicians and assistants with patient preparation, handling, and recovery
Manage radiation therapy equipment and supply inventory
