Veterinary Pharmacy Technician

Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) is looking full-time Veterinary Pharmacy Technician to join our team.

The Pharmacy technician's role is responsible for the management of medication distribution, overseeing the pharmacy logs, answering incoming phone calls from outside pharmacies and clients, and providing drug information and education to the clients. The primary responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician are to assist the medical teams with serving customers and maintaining the Pharmacy department. This individual is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner, consistent with federal & state pharmaceutical laws.
Skills and qualifications:
- Will be expected to learn basic medical terminology
- Must be efficient, friendly, courteous, and helpful to all clients and coworkers, in all situations
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to prioritize and multi-task to optimize efficiency
- Must be proficient with computers in order to enter appropriate charges, process filling medications, refills and external prescriptions within our HIS Ezyvet
- Will maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times
- Must understand and support the Hospital’s mission and overall direction
- Weekend availability, 4/10 Schedule. Days TBD
Pay Range:
VA: $24 - $35
RVT: $28 - $40
VTS: $35 - $48
Responsibilities:
- Follow hospital’s general policies and protocols.
- Prepare and fill medications for both outpatients and hospitalized patients where permitted by state law.
- Perform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation & entry, troubleshooting and basic problem resolution.
- Retrieve the appropriate medication from inventory where permitted by state law and stock Cubex machines.
- Create prescription labels and put them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
- Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order.
- Assist with drug inventory control and management, following all state and federal laws regulating drugs by class and handling protocols.
- Follow appropriate hospital protocol for filling controlled substances.
- Provide medication counseling to the owners to assure they understand the doctor’s instructions using excellent customer service skills.
- Check prescription dashboard, keeping daily log of requests and filling prescriptions daily.
- Monitor pharmacy email, voicemail and internal HIS for prescriptions requests.
- Communicate with doctors regarding prescriptions requests.
- Pharmacy technicians should be skilled in answering the phone and have basic knowledge of computer and fax functions.
