Are you passionate about helping animals heal, regain strength, and live their best lives? At Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS), we are seeking a dedicated Sports Veterinary and Rehabilitation Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic team.

Position Summary:
It is the responsibility of the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Veterinary Assistant to provide quality and compassionate care to all GCVS patients. They play a vital role in improving the mobility, comfort, function, and quality of life of patients recovering from surgery, injury, neurologic conditions, and chronic pain. This position works closely with veterinarians and the rehabilitation team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing therapeutic exercises, manual therapies, underwater treadmill therapy, laser therapy, and other rehabilitation modalities. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, team-focused, and passionate about helping patients achieve the best possible recovery outcomes while providing exceptional client education and support.

Compensation:

  • $19-$22/ hr, compensation based on:
    • Critical skillset
    • Experience levels
    • Licensure
  • + $$ differentials offered for nights and weekends
Schedule:
  • Full Time
    • Tuesday – Friday
      • 8am – 6pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians in evaluating patients recovering from orthopedic, neurologic, surgical, and chronic pain conditions.
  • Implement individualized rehabilitation treatment plans under veterinary supervision.
  • Perform therapeutic exercises and rehabilitation modalities including underwater treadmill therapy, laser therapy, manual therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and stretching exercises as prescribed.
  • Monitor patient response to therapy and communicate progress, concerns, or recommendations to the supervising veterinarian.
  • Safely handle, lift, and restrain canine and feline patients of varying sizes, temperaments, and mobility levels.
  • Able to lift 100 pounds from floor to waist height infrequently, 25-50 pounds frequently with particular emphasis on canines.
  • Educate clients on home exercise programs, recovery expectations, and ongoing patient care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records documenting treatments, patient progress, and client communications using proper medical terminology.
  • Prepare rehabilitation equipment and treatment areas while ensuring cleanliness, organization, and proper maintenance of all therapy equipment.
  • Transport animals to and from other areas of GCVS, including ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients
  • Assist with scheduling rehabilitation appointments and coordinating ongoing treatment plans as needed.
  • Follow all hospital safety, sanitation, and patient care protocols.
  • Equipment and House Keeping:
    • Assist in general maintenance of equipment and clinic, including needs specific to the underwater treadmill: daily water quality checks and chemical additions as needed, weekly draining/refilling of water storage tank
    • Complete routine cleaning of rehab clinic as needed to maintain a safe and clean work environment, including animal excrement and mopping wet floors
    • Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
    • Assist in maintenance and basic repairs of Rehabilitation equipment
    • Stocking and cleaning the Rehab clinic as needed
    • Clean/dry/fold laundry (primarily towels and blankets) for the clinic’s use
    • Washing dishes
    • General Janitorial Duties as assigned
    • Moving of boxes or equipment as needed
    • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning lists as assigned
Who We’re Looking For:
  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology is preferred
  • Technician Certification (LVT, RVT. CVT, CVA) preferred, or comparable experience as a veterinary assistant
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Dependable, adaptable, with a positive attitude
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
