Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant (VA)

What You’ll Do

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with advanced internal medicine procedures, including endoscopy, imaging, and diagnostic sample collection

  • Provide safe, effective restraint for a variety of patients, including critical or fractious cases

  • Support patient care by obtaining vital signs, assisting with treatments, and monitoring hospitalized patients

  • Assist with venipuncture, sample collection, and basic laboratory tasks

  • Prepare and maintain equipment and treatment areas for procedures and daily workflow

  • Anticipate team needs and help ensure efficient patient flow in a fast-paced environment

  • Communicate clearly with team members and assist with client updates and discharge preparation

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment environment

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Prior experience in a veterinary clinical setting required (emergency or specialty experience strongly preferred)

  • Strong animal handling and restraint skills, including working with fractious or critical patients

  • Ability to assist with and support advanced procedures (endoscopy, imaging, sample collection, etc.)

  • Experience with patient care tasks such as obtaining vitals, assisting with treatments, and monitoring hospitalized patients

  • Comfort with venipuncture, sample collection, and basic laboratory tasks preferred

  • Ability to anticipate team needs and work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow medical instructions and protocols

  • Effective communication skills when working with both clients and medical team members

  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and remain calm under pressure

  • Desire to continue developing clinical skills and grow within a specialty department
