Summary: The Neurology Technician will work to assist the Neurologist in their daily duties as well as carry out treatment /diagnostics and surgery plans. The ideal candidate will have experience in or a strong interest in neurology, providing exceptional care to patients with neurological conditions. They will be expected to relay neurological disease processes to clients, so patience, professionalism, and kindness to all clients is required. Reporting Relationship: Surgery/Neurology Supervisor
Key Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians with neurological examinations and diagnostic procedures.
Accurately obtain and relay detailed patient history to neurologist, documenting history, treatment and diagnostics into EzyVet
Administer medications, treatments, and monitor anesthesia under the guidance of a veterinarian.
Provide pre- and post-surgical care to neurology patients.
Perform and assist with advanced diagnostics, CT, including cerebrospinal fluid collection, MRI, electro diagnostics and radiographic procedures.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, communication logs, handle department voicemail, client callbacks and documentation
Educate and communicate with clients regarding their pet's condition, treatment plans, review of estimates, and follow-up care.
Ensure a clean, safe, stocked and organized work environment.
Must become proficient using hospital software systems (Outlook, EzyVet & Smartflow) within the first 30 days.
Handle and process laboratory samples for submission to local and offsite labs.
Required Technical Skills:
Patient restraint and handling skills
Anesthesia trained. Monitor all aspects including ECG, SpO2, EtCO2, and NIBP. Patient care from induction through recovery for various ASA levels.
Familiarity with neurological terminology and procedures.
Proficiency in phlebotomy, catheter placement, pharmacolgy and medication administration.
Expected to train and learn how to run MRI & CT
Training: Completion of anesthesia training through NVS. Technicians will need to pass both written and practical exams.
Preferred but Not Required:
Experience with the operation of MRI equipment for veterinary patients.
1+ yrsNeurology experience
1-2yrs specialty experience.
Performance Requirements:
Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT) and at least 1+ years of veterinary hospital experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Flexibility to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary
Must always follow the NVS Ideal Employee Qualities guidelines
Must be willing to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by NVS management
