- $17-$19/ hr based on experience and skillset
Schedule:
- Full Time
- Monday- Friday
- Rotating Saturdays
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Avian & Exotics Veterinary Assistant will be expected to provide compassionate and gold standard of care to all GCVS patients. The expectation will be to monitor and assist in the care of patients and keep detailed records during hospitalization. The assistant must have good communication skills with doctors, CPC’s, management, and their peers to perform the work as delegated and produce quality results. This position requires a dependable, organized, high energy individual who can handle multiple tasks at one time in a high stress, fast paced environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Avian & Exotics Veterinary Assistant will be expected to provide compassionate and gold standard of care to all GCVS patients. The expectation will be to monitor and assist in the care of patients and keep detailed records during hospitalization. The assistant must have good communication skills with doctors, CPC’s, management, and their peers to perform the work as delegated and produce quality results. This position requires a dependable, organized, high energy individual who can handle multiple tasks at one time in a high stress, fast paced environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead staff, develop protocols, manage tasks, and ensure communication with A&E.
- Perform clerical tasks: typing, EMR use, phone operations, and estimate creation.
- Monitor patient vitals, intake/output, and report abnormalities.
- Assist with exotic patient triage, CPR, and EKG interpretation.
- Apply knowledge of first aid, pharmacology, disease processes, and hospital software.
- Additional duties as assigned
Who We’re Looking For:
- Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) preferred
- Experienced Veterinary Assistants with at least 2 years of experience
- Prior experience with exotics/wildlife is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to thrive under pressure and make informed decisions in fast-paced situations.
- A genuine passion for animal care and a commitment to patient well-being.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
