
Vista Veterinary Specialists is looking for a Internal Medicine Technician to join our team on a part-time basis.
Our 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital has recently relocated to a newly expanded 17,300-square-foot medical facility, designed to support advanced specialty and critical care medicine. The hospital now includes five fully equipped operating rooms, a new on-site CT scanner, and dedicated Intensive Care (ICU) and Intermediate Care (ICW) units to accommodate a high-acuity caseload.
We provide comprehensive specialty services in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, radiology, and cardiology, supported by a collaborative, multi-disciplinary medical team. Our hospital is equipped with a full in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasonography, on-site CT, and endoscopy, enabling efficient diagnostics, advanced case management, and continuity of care.
Shift: Tuesday's & Thursday's 8am to 6pm (4-10hr Shifts)
About the Job:
The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) serves as the primary support to the Internist and plays a vital role in patient care. Internal Medicine Technicians must value the highest standards in quality of care while also respecting the personal limitations that may impact the decisions made by our clients. Candidates should know and be able to perform and teach all tasks covered in: the kennel assistant, veterinary assistant, and general practice veterinary technician.
Daily Job Tasks:
- Assist Internal Medicine veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of inpatients and outpatients with complex, chronic, and multi-system medical conditions.
- Perform patient triage, including assessment of clinical status, collection of comprehensive medical histories, and active participation in the development and implementation of individualized patient care plans.
- Recognize potentially contagious and/or zoonotic diseases and strictly follow established isolation, infection control, and hospital safety protocols.
- Collect, prepare, and process laboratory samples in accordance with hospital protocols to support timely and accurate diagnostic evaluation.
- Ensure accurate, detailed, and timely medical documentation, including patient vitals, treatments performed, medications administered, and diagnostic tests ordered and completed.
- Perform and/or assist with diagnostic imaging, including radiography and CT imaging, encompassing patient preparation, positioning, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
- Provide endoscopy support, including equipment setup, patient preparation, procedural assistance, sample handling, and post-procedural recovery and care.
- Perform and assist with anesthetic procedures, including patient preparation, induction, monitoring, and recovery, with close attention to patient safety and physiologic stability.
- Deliver clear, compassionate client education regarding diagnostics, treatment plans, procedures, and at-home care instructions to promote understanding and compliance.
About You:
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical practices, procedures, and terminology, including disease states, common clinical presentations, and standard treatment and isolation protocols.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the operation and monitoring of patient monitoring systems, in-house laboratory equipment, radiographic imaging, and anesthetic equipment; training on endoscopy support and CT imaging will be provided.
- Ability to accurately perform medical and mathematical calculations, including drug dosages, continuous rate infusions (CRIs), client estimates and invoices, and other position-related calculations.
- Self-motivated professional who takes initiative, works efficiently and proactively, anticipates patient and team needs, and follows cases through to completion.
- Collaborative, team-oriented individual who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and communicates effectively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and support staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to maintain professional composure, adaptability, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced, high-performance clinical environment with evolving priorities.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including walking and standing for up to 10 hours per day, sitting, reaching with arms and hands, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license required.
