Veterinary Technician - Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine

Veterinary ICU Technician - Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated team of Veterinary professionals. 
 
Position Overview:   
 
The ICU Technician performs a variety of patient and client-care duties, conducts patient assessments and performs procedures and treatments. This person communicates clearly with the veterinarians, other hospital personnel, and clients to ensure that patients receive the care they need. They administer medications, provide supportive care and advanced monitoring. The ICU Technician provides patients and clients comfort by keeping the hospital clean and presentable. 
 
The ICU Technician works 12+ hour shifts with a combination of working and on-call shifts which may include weekends, daytime and overnight. 
 
 Essential Functions 
  • Provides compassionate patient care, keeping patients clean, dry, and comfortable. 
  • Alerts the veterinarian(s) to changes in patients’ condition. 
  • Provides safe and effective patient restraint. 
  • Medicates patients by order of prescribing veterinarian or technician. 
  • Uses proper safety techniques and positioning for radiological procedures. 
  • Triages patient needs and prioritizes treatments accordingly 
  • Performs procedures such as IV catheterization and other common treatments. 
  • Performs venipuncture on all common veins. 
  • Places urinary catheters 
  • Places nasal cannulas for oxygen delivery 
  • Interprets/Monitors ECG’s 
  • Demonstrates initiative in everyday duties by seeking other work during down times, assisting other employees, and filling in for other employees as needed. 
 Requirements 
  • Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. 
  • Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) preferred but not required. 
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist Certification (VTS) preferred but not required. 
  • At least 3 years of recent experience in veterinary practice, with increasing responsibilities. 
  • Ability to properly restrain patients. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. 
  • A commitment to outstanding client service. 
 Physical Demands 
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to stay on task and work energetically for the entire shift, sometimes exceeding 12 hours per day. 
  • Must be able to kneel/crouch/push/pull. 
  • Must be able to sit and stand for the entire shift, sometimes exceeding 12 hours per day. 

Wage Range: $20-$30/hr
