Job Description
The Financial Records Auditor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of hospital billing through concurrent and retrospective audits of medical records, treatment sheets, and invoices. This role helps protect hospital revenue by identifying missed charges, documentation discrepancies, and billing inaccuracies while supporting continuous process improvement through reporting, education, and collaboration with hospital leadership.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily audits of inpatient and outpatient medical records, treatment sheets, and invoices.
- Verify services, medications, diagnostics, and procedures are accurately documented and billed.
- Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, missed charges, duplicate charges, and documentation errors.
- Ensure charges are assigned to the appropriate doctor and department
- Maintain auditing logs, revenue recovery reports, and trend analyses.
- Prepare routine reports summarizing audit findings, recovered revenue, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with doctors, technicians, CSRs, and leadership to resolve discrepancies and improve charging accuracy.
- Provide education and feedback to team members on documentation and billing best practices
- Recommend workflow improvements that reduce revenue leakage and increase operational efficiency.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, medical, and employee information
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years of veterinary hospital experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, hospital workflows, and billing practices.
- Experience with EzyVet, SmartFlow, Microsoft Excel, and other reporting tools preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Patient-focused attitude with active listening and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently without compromising accuracy or quality
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
