Veterinary Technician Learning & Development Specialist

$40.00–$50.00/hour (DOE)

SAGE Veterinary Centers is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Learning & Development Specialist (TLDS) to support the training, development, and clinical growth of our Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants.

This is a hands-on clinical role for an experienced veterinary professional who enjoys both working on the hospital floor and developing others. The TLDS continues to work as a Veterinary Technician while helping assess clinical skills, train new team members, support onboarding, and build ongoing learning opportunities for the hospital team.

Responsibilities

  • Work hands-on as a Veterinary Technician while serving as a clinical trainer and mentor for Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants.
  • Assess clinical skills and provide direct, hands-on training for new and existing team members.
  • Facilitate Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Technician training across multiple skill levels.
  • Develop and deliver clinical in-service training and educational sessions.
  • Partner with Clinical Supervisors and hospital leadership to create individualized learning and development plans.
  • Support onboarding and role-specific training across hospital departments based on operational needs.
  • Track completion of clinical training, competency assessments, protocols, and required learning modules.
  • Assign and support training through VetBloom, Talent Unleashed, and other learning platforms.
  • Help develop and standardize clinical protocols, practical assessments, and skill sign-offs.
  • Provide timely feedback to team members and leadership regarding training progress and development needs.
  • Collaborate with the Ethos Clinical Learning & Development team and other clinical trainers to implement updated training programs.
  • Support continuing education programs, workshops, and hospital learning initiatives.
  • Promote a positive learning environment focused on clinical excellence, professional development, and patient care.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), or equivalent credential required.
  • Advanced veterinary clinical knowledge and strong hands-on technical skills.
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) credential is a plus.
  • Experience training, mentoring, precepting, or developing Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants.
  • Ability to confidently perform and teach veterinary clinical skills, including patient assessment and triage, venipuncture, medication and fluid administration, CPR, and patient care.
  • Strong presentation, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support employees at varying levels of clinical experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple training and development initiatives.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with technicians, veterinarians, hospital leadership, and Learning & Development partners.
  • Ability to adapt training approaches to individual learning needs and changing hospital priorities.
  • Experience with veterinary electronic medical record systems and learning management systems preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on hospital training and clinical needs.
