Position Overview:
The Laboratory Veterinary Assistant (LVA) is responsible for maintaining the GCVS laboratory. The LVA will ensure the laboratory is fully stocked and in complete working order at all times to maintain quality control. They need to have experience in project management and have good time management skills. The position requires a person who is customer service oriented and has effective communication skills to perform the work as delegated and produce quality results. The LVA must be a dependable, high-energy person who can handle multiple tasks at one time as well as a high stress environment, while maintaining a courteous attitude with their clients, the GCVS doctors and staff.
Compensation:
- $18-$20/ hr based on experience and skillset
- ++$$ night differentials
Schedule:
- Full Time
- Monday- Friday
- Rotating Weekends (Saturdays/Sundays)
Laboratory Responsibilities
- Collect and process specimens using proper techniques and modalities
- Perform technical lab procedures including venipuncture, fecals, skin scrapings, cytology, urinalysis, blood typing, cross-matching, manual counts, and differentials
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Complete all in-house lab testing and coordinate send-out labs
- Serve as a laboratory resource for staff and maintain test references
- Manage lab inventory, supplies, forms, and sample storage
- Oversee lab invoicing, billing reporting, and financial submissions
- Create monthly, annual, and ad hoc lab reports
- Research new equipment, tests, and laboratory services
- Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and daily stocking
- Communicate effectively with staff and vendors
- Attend all required meetings and training sessions
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client services. This includes evaluating client needs, meeting quality standards, providing an exceptional client experience, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures, including word processing, designing forms, maintaining files, dictation and transcription, communicating via email, and the use of computer programs to manage and maintain client and patient information.
- Knowledge of basic drug usages, generic and brand names, possible side effects/reactions for the more common drugs, and controlled substances protocol.
- Using social perceptiveness to be aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Ability to modify approach as appropriate.
- Knowledge of clinic procedures in support of streamlining clients’ experiences with us and patient care protocols.
Who We’re Looking For:
- High School diploma is required, Associate's degree (A. A.) in animal technology or Bachelors is preferred along with current technical certification (RVT, CVT, LVT, CVA); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education / experience.
- Experienced Veterinary Assistants with at least 2 years of experience preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to thrive under pressure and make informed decisions in fast-paced situations.
- A genuine passion for animal care and a commitment to patient well-being.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
