Compensation
  • Credentialed Technicians: $27 - $37/hr. based on experience
  • Non-Credentialed Technicians: $24 - $32/hr. based on experience

Job Description
The Recovery Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing attentive post-operative and post-anesthetic care to hospitalized patients, ensuring a safe and comfortable recovery following surgical or diagnostic procedures. This role requires strong patient monitoring skills, knowledge of anesthesia and recovery protocols, and the ability to communicate effectively with veterinarians and nursing staff to deliver exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform medical record keeping and documenting.
  • Maintain cleanliness of room./restock supplies
  • Knowledge and use of anesthesia equipment: bags, hoses, masks, suction.
  • Be able to communicate with both ward techs and Doctors.
  • Perform basic animal care (comfort and cleanliness)
  • Perform treatments such as pedicures, clean ears, anal glands, clean incision.
  • Monitor patient during recovery period-vitals, IV fluids
  • Understanding of common drugs, effects and reactions to patient.
  • Notify Doctor or senior technician with concerns of any abnormal vital or problems.
  • Closely monitoring temperature and using warm blankets, towels, heating pads, and hot water bottles to all hypothermic animals.
  • Endotracheal extubation.
  • Ensure incision and all bandages remain clean and dry and monitor toes for swelling.
  • Proper application of Fentanyl patches.
  • Noticing common signs of pain in both dogs and cats.
  • Dispensing and dministering SQ, IM, and IV injections both controlled and non-controlled drugs. 
  • Transport the patient from the recovery area to the ward once the patient’s vitals are normal.
  • Communicating post-operative care and any problems with the ward technician.
Qualifications
  • LVT, CVT, or RVT credential preferred
  • Three years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital.
  • Previous experience working in an emergency or specialty veterinary hospital preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, electronic medical records, and data entry.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.
  • RECOVER CPR certification a plus.
  • Experience managing critically ill and hospitalized patients preferred.
