MIssionVet Specialty & Emergency is a multi-disciplinary hospital that was founded in 2012 as a sister hospital of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. Since then, we have grown to become known as a pillar of veterinary emergency and specialty care within San Antonio and South Texas. Position Overview:
The Diagnostic Assistant is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Emergency/ Critical Care Supervisors, senior technicians, and the Hospital Administrator. Occupants of this position are required to help improve the quality of the care given to the patients of MIssionVet Specialty & Emergency. This position requires timely management of major responsibilities and flexibility to assist as able within the Emergency/Critical Care Departments.

Compensation:
  • $17-$19/ hr based on experience
    • +$3/hr overnight differential
    • +$1/ hr weekend differential
Schedule:
  • Full Time
    • Friday- Sunday
      • 8pm-8am
Key Responsibilities:
  • Process all samples submitted for in-house testing including CBCs with manual differential count, biochemistry testing, coagulation panels, urine analysis (including microscopic evaluation), cross match testing, , blood smears, multiple fecal tests, and preparation of send out tests (e.g.,PCR testing, serology titers, drug screens)
  • Assisting in restraining and positioning patients for collection of laboratory sampling
  • Have a basic understanding of small animal anatomy
  • Have a basic understanding of small animal radiography positioning and radiation safety
  • Data entry including, but not limited to: Laboratory requests, invoicing laboratory charges, uploading reports into medical record system, sending/uploading reports to referring clinics, etc.
  • Proper use of the diagnostic imaging equipment including, but not limited to: Start up and shut down of equipment and computers, entering patient information into equipment, safe use and maintenance of equipment
  • Understanding & complying with proper protective equipment (PPE)
  • Stocking and cleaning in all department common areas
  • Assisting with laundry, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, etc
  • Disinfecting all equipment after each patient
  • Walk, feed, and assist with treatments for any hospitalized patients as needed
  • Knowledge of clinic procedures in support of streamlining clients’ experiences with us.
  • Knowledge of patient care standards in support of providing the highest level of medical case management.
  • Knowledge of client communication standards to provide the highest level of customer service.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma is required, Associate's degree (A. A.) is preferred; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education / experience.
  • 1-2 years of veterinary experience as a veterinary assistant preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with medical/veterinary laboratory equiptment
  • Adapts positively to the ever-changing healthcare environment by supporting technology and process changes.
  • Must possess excellent listening and interpersonal skills and problem-solving methods.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
