As an Ophthalmology Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), you'll work alongside board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists providing advanced diagnostics, anesthesia, surgical support, and patient care for animals with a wide range of eye conditions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced California RVT, Specialty Veterinary Technician, or Surgical Veterinary Technician who enjoys anesthesia, advanced procedures, and developing specialized skills in veterinary ophthalmology.

Veterinary Vision specializes in advanced veterinary ophthalmology, serving the San Francisco Bay Area from locations in San Carlos and San Francisco. Our team includes three board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists and more than ten experienced veterinary support professionals.

While dogs and cats make up much of our caseload, our team also evaluates rabbits, pocket pets, horses, and other animals and provides advisory services to nearby zoos and wildlife rehabilitation organizations.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

  • Assist veterinary ophthalmologists with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and ophthalmic surgeries.
  • Provide skilled patient care and monitoring before, during, and after procedures.
  • Perform and assist with specialized ophthalmic diagnostic testing to evaluate eye health and function.
  • Support anesthesia, including patient preparation, anesthetic monitoring, and post-anesthetic recovery.
  • Assist during ophthalmic surgical procedures while maintaining patient safety and surgical standards.
  • Provide post-operative nursing care and monitor patients throughout recovery.
  • Educate pet owners about eye conditions, medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate electronic medical records.
  • Clean, maintain, and prepare ophthalmic instruments and specialized medical equipment.
  • Assist with urgent ophthalmic cases, including eye injuries and acute ocular conditions.

What You Bring

  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license required.
  • Minimum of two years of veterinary clinical experience.
  • Strong veterinary anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring skills.
  • Ability to accurately perform medication, drug dosage, CRI, estimate, and other veterinary medical calculations.
  • Strong patient care, organization, communication, and technical skills.
  • Compassionate and professional approach to client communication and patient care.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working within a collaborative specialty veterinary team.
  • Interest in veterinary ophthalmology, specialty medicine, surgery, and continued professional development.
