SAGE Redwood City is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Senior Veterinary Assistant (SVA) to join our Urgent Care team. This is an opportunity to use your veterinary nursing skills in a fast-paced setting where you’ll evaluate incoming patients, support same-day medical care, assist with diagnostics and procedures, and help clients understand the next steps in their pet’s treatment.

About SAGE Redwood City

SAGE Redwood City is a leading specialty and emergency veterinary hospital serving the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of Ethos Veterinary Health, our team combines advanced medicine, experienced veterinary professionals, and a collaborative approach to patient care.

Our Urgent Care service provides an important bridge between primary care and emergency medicine, caring for patients who need prompt evaluation and treatment but may not require the level of intensive intervention found in the emergency or ICU setting.

In Your Day-to-Day

  • Triage and Patient Assessment: Evaluate incoming urgent-care patients, obtain histories, record vital signs, and identify changes in condition that require immediate attention.

  • Hands-On Patient Care: Provide nursing care, administer medications and treatments as directed, assist with procedures, and monitor patients throughout their visit.

  • Diagnostics: Collect samples and perform laboratory testing, including blood work, urinalysis, and cytology. Assist with radiology and other diagnostic procedures as needed.

  • Procedure Support: Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, sedation, and other urgent-care procedures while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

  • Patient Monitoring: Monitor sedated patients and patients recovering from procedures, recognizing and communicating changes in patient status promptly.

  • Client Education: Help clients understand medications, home-care instructions, follow-up recommendations, and the treatment plan for their pet.

  • Accurate Medical Records: Maintain complete and timely patient records, documenting treatments, diagnostics, medications, and patient responses.

  • Medication & Treatment Calculations: Perform accurate calculations for medications, CRIs, invoices, estimates, and other clinical needs.

  • Team Communication: Communicate clearly with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and client service team members to keep patient care moving efficiently.

  • Patient Advocacy: Maintain a calm, compassionate presence for patients and their families, particularly when they are experiencing an unexpected illness or injury.

About You

  • Current and valid California RVT license OR 3+ years of veterinary nursing experience.

  • Previous experience in urgent care, emergency, specialty, or high-volume veterinary medicine strongly preferred.

  • Strong veterinary nursing, animal handling, restraint, and patient-care skills.

  • Comfortable performing or assisting with laboratory diagnostics and radiology.

  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, medications, and common veterinary procedures.

  • Able to remain calm, organized, and effective while managing multiple patients and priorities.

  • Strong communication and client education skills.

  • Detail-oriented and comfortable performing accurate mathematical calculations.

  • Collaborative team member who is willing to step in wherever patient care requires support.

  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

  • California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) required within 60 days of hire for SVAs; waived for RVTs.

Why Join SAGE Redwood City?

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
