Veterinary Emergency Department Supervisor

Care Center, Cincinnati is looking for an Emergency Department Supervisor to lead our night shift!

The ER Supervisor role at the Care Center holds significant leadership responsibilities within the hospital setting. They lead both the ER and Nursing Teams during their shift, ensuring seamless operations and optimal patient care. This involves coordinating patient care, resource management, and effective problem-solving. In addition to these tasks, ER Supervisors provide essential leadership, mentorship, immediate feedback, and guidance to the teams they lead. Their contributions are pivotal in upholding high-quality care standards and fostering a collaborative work environment. The goal for the ER Supervisor is to ensure consistent support and clear communication for the ER/Nursing teams by establishing clear guidelines and expectations for managers. The ER Supervisor seamlessly combines the duties of a veterinary technician or assistant, with the leadership responsibilities integral to the hospital's functioning. 

Additional Duties include but are not limited to:
Clinical responsibilities 
  • Technician and Technician Assistant job duties or others as assigned.  
Caseload Management 
  • Supervising workflow, encompassing tasks such as: 
    • Patient triage 
    • Care of hospitalized patients 
    • Task prioritization 
    • Coordinating and communicating with Specialty departments for mutual patient care 
    • Ensuring completion of the end-of-shift cleaning
Team and on the Floor Leadership 
  • Delegating tasks to suitable team members. 
  • Orchestrating shift organization. 
  • Managing breaks for ICU staff. 
  • Facilitating seamless patient transfers between hospitals. 
  • Addressing periods of idleness through redirection. 
  • Realigning staff focus during periods of high activity. 
  • Disseminates important information to the team, including changes in protocols and policies.
  • Ensures compliance and provides feedback and support during change initiatives.
  • Participate in interview process by performing in person interviews and facilitating job shadows to potential applicants. 
Our ideal candidate is a problem solver and effective communicator who leads by example and exhibits the behaviors expected by staff including having an oriented and positive demeanor with a focus on defusing conflict, supporting staff, and providing feedback on performance. They will exhibit the ability to stay composed and effectively lead the team in high-pressure situations.

Qualifications and CE requirements:
  • A minimum of 2 years of ER experience
  • Proven subject matter expert of the complex inner workings of an Emergency department
  • Complete a minimum of 6 hours annually in non-technical areas such as management, leadership, HR, etc. All chosen CE events or webinars must receive prior approval from management. 
  • Fulfill a minimum of 2 hours annually in clinical continuing education focused on ER/CC, in addition to meeting the CE obligations outlined by AAHA and state licensure. 
Schedule and Compensation:
  • 2nd and 3rd shift availability is required.
  • Base hourly pay depends on experience
  • There is a $650/month stipend available for this position
