About the Role: The purpose of the Surgery/Neurology Supervisor is to provide and promote high-quality medical support and nursing care to companion animal patients. In addition, this position is recognized as a leadership role and is responsible for the general oversight and workflow efficiency of the hospital and client/patient services. You will partner with the DVMs, Hospital Operations Manager, Marketing/Outreach Coordinator, Referral Coordinator, Emergency Technical Supervisors and Client Service Representative to to deliver exceptional client and patient care, while building and maintaining a cohesive, well-trained, efficient clinical and nursing team that provides emergency, surgery, and specialty services. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a coach, trainer, and mentor to hospital staff. Partner with doctors and hospital management to provide forward movement of hospital programs, including client/patient services, progressive medical and surgical care, consistent and high-quality patient nursing and supportive care, laboratory, and imaging diagnostic within a 24/7 emergency practice model. 
  • Develop and maintain a training program to support hospital team members, including new hires and existing staff. Develop and maintain hospital protocols for the surgery-treatment services that meet or exceed the AVMA, NCVMB, and OSHA standards.
  • Oversee the daily functions of the surgery service, neurology service, and diagnostic laboratory and imaging services for specialty care and emergency services. Create team work schedules. Oversee inventory control, including controlled drugs, medical supplies, and instruments. Oversee equipment maintenance and repair, including technical support and updates.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-house continuing education, and off-site continuing education as requested or required. Provide on-site training to veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and referral coordinator. Develop and maintain a complete training manual, training schedule, and staff evaluation process.
  • Other job responsibilities as needed. 

Requirements for the Role:

  • RVT, LVT, or CVT status with current documentation required. Minimum of 2 years working as a veterinary technician, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine. Prior supervisory or leadership experience required. 
  • An understanding of advanced veterinary knowledge, including restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, venipuncture, induction and recovery of anesthesia, drug calculations, laboratory equipment and procedures, etc.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, surgical instruments, excellent aseptic technique, cleaning, sterilizing (steam and gas), wrapping, and storing surgical instruments.
  • Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members, and a commitment to exceptional patient care.
