ECC Department Charge Nurse
Summary:
The ECC Department Charge Nurse(s) is responsible for providing excellent patient care and exemplifying the Summit Veterinary Referral Center and ECC department values. The ECC Department Charge Nurse(s) must have excellent communication with the Floor Supervisors, doctors, and other support staff to discharge their job duties and produce quality results. This position requires dependable, flexible, and self-motivated individuals who can prioritize and execute tasks while leading people in a high stress, fast-paced environment. An ECC Department Charge Nurse should be able to defuse problematic situations as they arise and know when it is appropriate to inform their Floor Supervisor.

Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Model a positive attitude, composure under pressure, flexibility, and superior communication skills; keep the environment focused and calm, especially during high stress moments.
  • Operate within Summit’s values and mission statement to provide exceptional patient care and superior client service.
  • Assign triage runner & care teams for each shift.
  • Continuously evaluate, maintain, and improve the shift’s ability to receive new patients.
  • Direct support staff through triage workflow and fulfillment of treatment plans.
  • Continuously evaluate triaged patients & manage priorities of work for care teams.
  • Attend ER rounds and assign care teams within ICU.
  • Work alongside triage team & triage runner to maintain awareness of all triaged patients, including presenting complaints, vitals, approvals, treatment plans, and hospitalization status.
  • Directly provide patient care as appropriate and necessary for the situation.
  • Work with Floor Supervisor & training team to develop technical skills for new and current ECC staff.  
  • Report to direct supervisor any staff issues that need to be addressed that are outside the realm of coaching/mentoring.
  • Maintain communication with Department Manager and assist with direct employee oversight.
  • Ensure all staff duties are completed satisfactorily, coaching as needed.
  • Ensure ECC policies, protocols, and procedures are followed and provide in-the-moment coaching when appropriate.
  • Continue to be a member of the larger team and assist in daily tasks and procedures.
Schedule Requirements:
  • The ECC Department Charge Nurse must be flexible and adapt to the needs of SVRC and the Department.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to be active, sitting, walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Able to work in low to moderate noise, including animal noises.
  • Able to work well under pressure and at high levels of stress.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and work on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to supplies commonly used in a hospital setting, such as anesthetic gases and X-ray irradiation, within appropriate OSHA standards.
  • Risk of injury from animals.
  • Flexibility with scheduled working hours.
Education:
  • High School Diploma.
Licensure:
  • Current Veterinary Technician License valid in the state of Washington.
Experience:  
  • Minimum of two years of experience working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Hourly pay range- $26.00 - $37.00 depending on experience
