We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Hospital Director of Operations to lead our team at Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital (VESH) in Wichita, KS. VESH has been providing pets in the Wichita area with the highest level of specialized emergency and nursing care, as well as surgery and advanced dentistry since 1978. CT is also available if indicated by our patient’s treatment needs.

Our mission is to provide the highest level of specialty with compassionate treatment tailored to the client and their pet. We partner with area practitioners to deliver advanced veterinary diagnostics and services that are not otherwise available in our community.

The Hospital Director of Operations will oversee the hospital’s day-to-day operations, ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients while driving financial and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in matrixed organizations, a passion for veterinary medicine, and a track record of building collaborative, high-performing teams.

You will play a critical role in envisioning the future, driving innovation, and engaging a cross-functional team, including support center colleagues, to foster an environment where excellence and compassion thrive.

*This is an on-site position. The Hospital Director of Operations will primarily work on site, Monday through Friday daytime hours with flexibility needed to show a presence and engage with team members on all shifts, including occasional nights and weekends.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree ideal. Advanced degree is a plus; MHA/MBA
  • Experience: 5–10+ years of senior leadership experience in veterinary hospital operations, healthcare, or retail, ideally in a multi-specialty or matrixed setting.
  • Skills: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive strategic and operational initiatives, and foster inclusive collaboration. Brings strong business acumen with demonstrated experience successfully managing hospital financials, budgeting, and full P&L accountability.
  • Ideal Background: Proven experience building and scaling high-performing teams, driving engagement, and supporting professional development resulting in measurable improvements to hospital financials and EBITDA.
