Are you ready to join a cutting-edge veterinary hospital and provide gold-standard care to exotic patients? Maritime Veterinary Emergency + Specialty Centre (MVESC) is seeking a dedicated Exotics Veterinary Technician Assistant to become part of our collaborative, high-energy team.
Compensation:
$19–$26/hour, based on skill level and assessment
$2.50/hour shift premium
Weekdays: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.
Weekends: Friday 5:00 p.m. – Monday 8:00 a.m
Anticipated Schedule:
Part time – 24 hours per week

About the Role As an Exotics Technician Assistant, you will deliver compassionate care to all patients while supporting doctors, management, and your peers. You will monitor and treat patients, maintain detailed records, and ensure a seamless experience for clients. This fast-paced role requires organization, dependability, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks under high-pressure situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Client & Patient Care:
Admit, discharge, and escort patients to exam rooms
Obtain patient weights and provide the doctor with all relevant medical history
Educate clients on medications, home care, and aftercare instructions
Provide financial estimates and explain payment options to clients
Obtain client consent for diagnostics or procedures as requested
Return client calls in order of priority and relay messages, lab results, and doctor responses
Contact referring veterinarian offices as needed
Produce aftercare options and sympathy cards for deceased patients
Medical & Clinical Support:
Assist with sample collection, lab submissions, and running, reviewing, and interpreting lab tests and cytologies
Administer oral and topical medications
Assist with placing IV catheters and managing anesthesia (induction, maintenance, recovery)
Support doctors in procedures including CT, ultrasound, ear washes, biopsies, laser procedures, vaccinations, and more
Disinfect and maintain all medical equipment after each patient
Administrative & Operational Support:
Invoice all patient services and manage patient records accurately
Stock and clean common areas, assist with laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, and other general tasks as needed
Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions
