
We are seeking an on-site HR Manager to provide support for our multi-site emergency and specialty veterinary hospital teams!
Location: This position is on-site, requiring frequent travel between three hospitals.
Compensation:
- $85k - $95k depending on experience and skill set.

As the on-site HR Manager, you will serve as the primary People Team partner for a group of three emergency and specialty veterinary hospital across Virginia. This role provides hands-on HR support to hospital leadership and employees across the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, engagement, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and HR program implementation.
The HR Manager plays a key role in shaping our company’s culture and ensuring that we attract, develop, and retain top talent. You will play a critical role in supporting a positive and compliant workplace environment while helping leaders navigate complex employee relations matters with sound judgement and practical HR guidance. This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently, building strong relationships across teams, and balancing employee advocacy with business needs.
Qualifications - Minimum 4+ years of progressive HR experience, including 2+ years handling employee relations investigations and complex workplace issues.
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of HR management experience.
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, wage and hour regulations, and HR compliance practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters including investigations, disciplinary actions, and workplace conflict resolution.
- Experience supporting multiple HR functions such as onboarding, leave administration, performance management, and HR program implementation.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence leaders and build trust across all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement, navigate ambiguity, and manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, operational environment.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office; experience with Ceridian/Dayforce preferred.
Key Responsibilities - Serve as the primary on-site HR partner to leadership and employees, providing guidance on employee relations, policy interpretation, and workplace concerns.
- Partner with hospital leadership to support ongoing performance management, coaching, corrective action, and organizational changes.
- Leverage data to generate meaningful HR insights and create strategies to enhance employee engagement and retention.
- Lead the full employee lifecycle for the hospital, including recruitment coordination, onboarding, offboarding, exit interviews, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Facilitate the performance review and calibration process. Provide guidance on best practices as it relates to merit, promotions, job reclassifications, and compensation changes.
- Independently manage employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution while ensuring fair and consistent application of policies. Provide detailed investigative reports and collaborate with People Business Partners and legal counsel on recommendations as appropriate/required.
- Administer leaves of absence programs, facilitate the accommodations process, and manage benefits-related inquiries in partnership with centralized HR teams.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Support enterprise HR programs and initiatives, including open enrollment, training, engagement activities, and change initiatives. Collaborate with the broader People Team on HR projects, process improvements, and best practice implementation.
