CVRC located in beautiful Charleston, SC is the ONLY VECCS Level 1 certified facility in South Carolina, and 1 of only 2 in the southeast region of the United States! Our emergency center is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to always support our community! Specialty services offered at CVRC include cardiology, internal medicine, neurology & neurosurgery, medical oncology (radiation oncology coming soon!), rehabilitation, soft tissue & orthopedic surgery. Our hospital houses an MRT, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and digital radiographs for diagnostic imaging.
About the Role: The Emergency Department Coordinator will work closely with the medical staff, doctors, the Client Care department, and clients, acting as a liaison between parties. The ER Coordinator will facilitate communication from the respective department to clients. This role is instrumental in facilitating effective communication, coordination, and collaboration both within the specialty department and the client care department.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Communicate wait times, patient statuses, and updates with clients in the lobby. Take phone calls from clients calling for patient updates, manage ER callbacks and task lists. Present treatment plans for ER patients with accuracy and professionalism. Ensure all patient locations are up to date, correct, and in Vet Radar. Ensure all CPR statuses are documented and updated.
- Call for referring DVM (rDVM) records for ER patients and ensure they are prepared and attached to the patient’s record. Ensure finalized Emergency medical records are shared with rDVMs and clients. Regularly monitor the emergency department email, monitor client calls and inquiries ensuring they are addressed and recorded appropriately.
- Work as a primary and key client care representative within the department to maintain service quality and efficiency, including holidays and weekends as required by the department.
- Facilitate and prioritize euthanasia services, ensuring all necessary paperwork and financial arrangements are completed sensitively and efficiently. Obtain emergency consent, CPR directives, and brief histories from clients when necessary.
- Work alongside technicians & assistants to attend to patient needs.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years working as a veterinary technician, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine.
- Have an understanding of all basic veterinary knowledge, including restraint, phlebotomy, anesthesia, laboratory equipment and procedures, etc.
- Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members, and the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
