The Human Resources Generalist will serve as the primary on-site People Team partner supporting South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES). This role provides hands-on HR support to hospital leadership and employees across the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, engagement, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and HR program implementation.
Working in partnership with hospital leadership and the broader Ethos People Team, the HR Generalist plays a critical role in maintaining a positive, compliant, and supportive workplace environment. This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently, building strong relationships across teams, and balancing employee advocacy with business needs while supporting a fast-paced specialty veterinary hospital.

Serve as the primary on-site HR partner to leadership and employees, providing guidance on employee relations, policy interpretation, and workplace concerns.
Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution while ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
Partner with hospital leadership to support performance management, coaching, corrective action, and organizational changes.
Support the full employee lifecycle including recruitment coordination, onboarding, offboarding, and employee engagement initiatives.
Administer leave of absence programs, accommodations, and benefits-related inquiries in partnership with centralized HR teams.
Maintain compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Support enterprise HR programs and initiatives such as open enrollment, training, engagement activities, and change initiatives.
Collaborate with the broader People Team on HR projects, process improvements, and best practice implementation.
2+ years of experience in an HR Generalist or similar role required.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, wage and hour regulations, and HR compliance practices.
Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
Proven ability to build trust with employees and leaders while navigating complex workplace situations with sound judgment and discretion.
Experience supporting multiple HR functions including onboarding, leave administration, performance management, and HR program implementation.
Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office; experience with Ceridian/Dayforce preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR preferred but not required.
Previous experience in veterinary or healthcare environments is a plus.
