
Veterinary Assistant, Surgery | $18–$20/hr | Full-Time Benefits | Three 12-hour shifts | Natick, Massachusetts
Boston West Veterinary Emergency and Specialty is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our growing Surgery team in Natick, MA.
If you’re an experienced Veterinary Assistant—or eager to build your career in veterinary medicine—this is an opportunity to work alongside Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeons and an experienced specialty and emergency team in a fast-paced, collaborative hospital setting. You’ll gain hands-on experience with advanced surgical procedures including soft tissue, emergency, and orthopedic cases while helping deliver exceptional patient care every day.
Compensation
- $18–$20/hour based on experience and skill leveling assessment
Schedule- Three 12-hour shifts per week

Responsibilities- Assist the surgery team with patient care, treatments, procedures, and diagnostics before, during, and after surgery
- Support veterinarians and technicians with surgical preparation, patient restraint, anesthesia support, and recovery monitoring
- Prepare treatment and procedure areas to ensure efficient patient care throughout the day
- Stock exam rooms and treatment spaces with necessary supplies and equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment for patients, clients, and team members
- Assist during appointments and communicate with clients both in person and over the phone with professionalism and compassion
- Collaborate closely with the surgery, ER, and specialty teams to deliver high-quality patient care
- Help create a welcoming and positive experience for both clients and patients during every visit
Qualifications- Experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred; candidates eager to grow in veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply
- Interest in surgery, specialty medicine, or emergency veterinary care strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills with a client-service mindset
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment while staying organized and detail-oriented
- Team-focused with a positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed
- Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and supporting a collaborative hospital culture
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
