The Animal Medical Center of Seattle, WA is hiring a full- time Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine team!
Summary:
As a Veterinary Internal Medicine Assistant at Animal medical center of Seattle, you will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinary neurologist in delivering specialized care to animals with neurological disorders. Your responsibilities will include assisting in examinations, handling and restraining animals during procedures, administering medications, and providing post-operative care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Patient Examination Support: Assist with all aspects of patient exams including setting up equipment, obtaining patient histories, restraining animals, taking radiographs, providing take-home instructions, filling prescriptions, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Client Communication: Interact with clients in person, over the phone, and via email to provide updates, gather information, and support the care process.
- Exam Room Preparation: Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and ready for use. Record vital signs (TPR, weight, etc.) and enter accurate information into the medical record system.
- Animal Care & Handling: Support daily patient care including cleaning cages, feeding, walking, and bathing. Monitor patients for cleanliness and comfort. Safely retrieve and return patients to and from their owners, ensuring IV catheters are removed and belongings are returned.
- Hospital Admissions: Assist with admitting patients into the hospital for diagnostics or procedures, ensuring proper identification and recordkeeping.
- Facility Maintenance: Help maintain a clean and organized hospital environment, including treatment areas, laundry, cages, and exam rooms.
- Supply Management: Restock exam rooms and treatment areas regularly and assist with receiving and organizing deliveries.
- Medical Recordkeeping: Accurately document patient information, communication, and treatments in medical records.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Experience in advanced diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT) is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of basic computer functions and the ability to learn new veterinary based software applications.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful work environment.
- Must be able to always maintain professionalism and composure.
- Able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and the public in a professional manner.
- Able to handle difficult clients.
- Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
Education and Experience:
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
- Has at least two years of veterinary experience internal medicine or other specialty experience preferred).
Schedule:
- Tuesday – Friday 8am - 6pm
Compensation:
- Compensation is based on experience and skill level. $23 - 28/hr.
Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
